ROOF PITCHES
A fault commonly found relating to skillion roofs is the pitch or the slope of the roof being too flat for the product used for the roof covering.
The minimum acceptable roof pitch for corrugated sheeting is 5 degrees or 1 in 12.
For Spandek or Trimdeck sheeting the minimum acceptable roof pitch is 3 degrees or 1 in 20.
For Cliplock sheeting the minimum acceptable roof pitch is 1 degree or 1 in 60.
If there are joins in the roof sheeting (end lapping) the pitch is to be increased to comply with the manufacturer’s specifications.
If these manufactures specifications are not adhered to, side lap flooding will occur.
If the roof is facing the prevailing weather the recommended roof pitch must be increased.
Tiled roofs should not be installed on roofs with a pitch of less than 18 degrees with sisalation paper fixed under the tiles.
An experienced Building Inspector should report on the pitch of all skillion roofs where the pitch or slope is less than the manufacturer’s specifications.
